John Mott is an experienced and accomplished Film and Television production designer, working in the U.S. and internationally.

John is an Art Directors Guild Award nominee for Moments In Time (Discovery), and designed the highly acclaimed Sundance Award Winner The Sessions (Fox Searchlight).

Recent television credits include the popular Netflix show, Shadow and Bone (Season 2), shot in Budapest, Hungary; The Americans (Seasons 1 & 2) for FX; 12 Monkeys (Seasons 1-4) for Syfy; and FBI (Pilot and Season 1) for NBC/CBS.

Along with a love of movies that began in childhood, John’s approach to Production Design comes from a lifelong involvement in and love of architecture, art, photography, and sculpture.

John’s passion for visual storytelling and his extensive experience with color, texture, form, proportion, and lighting combine to inform character and tone, helping to identify the when, where, who, what and why of a scene.

In addition to the conceptual side of design, John is experienced in collaborating with all departments, working effectively to find practical and expedient solutions to problems.

John has been an invited speaker on Production Design at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, the American Film Institute, and Comic-Con in San Diego.

Memberships include the American Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (AATAS), the Art Directors Guild (SMPTAD, Local 800), and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, John grew up in Sydney, Australia and is a US citizen.
